I hope you all enjoyed our Healthy Snacks for Kids meeting! Where did we find all those great ideas to make snacks?

Some ideas came from Jessica Seinfeld's cook book Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food. If you would like your own copy you can purchase it on Amazon for $10.36.

January 12th - Don’t miss our first MOPS meeting of 2012. Our very own Dr. Megan Osborne will be speaking to us about how to raise our children to love their bodies! Megan’s Shaped With Love Ministries focuses on what we can do as moms to raise our children with a happy and healthy body esteem. Megan has a Ph.D in Clinical Christian Counseling and specializes in the treatment and prevention of eating disorders. She will have both of her children’s books available for signing and purchase for a discount price for our MOPS group at $10 each. All proceed go to supporting Shaped With Love Ministries.

January 19th - Fashion Show at "Renewed Expressions" a consignment boutique. Show starts at 7pm plan to arrive at 6:45 pm. Located at 2100 E. Fairview, Suite 8 in Meridian.

January 24th - Book Club Meeting. We will be discussing Happy Chaos by Soleil Moon Frye. Meeting place will be at Lauri's home at 7 pm.

January 26th - MOPs Meeting. We will be making 2 healthy snacks for kids. Do you have a healthy snack recipe you make for your kids? If you would like to make it and bring it to the meeting please do :). And here is a recipe to get you started: Healthy Pumpkin Muffins and Bread from Kitchen Stewardship.

December 8th- Eagle MOPs Group Meeting 9:30-11:30 am
This is our one and only meeting this month. Come join us as we talk about Christmas Traditions and make an Advent Calendar. Child Care will be provided and check-in begins at 9:15 am. Christmas Brunch will be served. If you signed up to bake a dozen cookies/brownies for the Service Project please bring them today in a disposable tray.

December 11th - Eagle MOPs Christmas Service Project 3-5 pm
As a group we will be baking and decorating cookies for the Boise City Light Home for Women and Children to hand out during the holidays. Show up with your cookies and enjoy an afternoon of decorating cookies with fellow MOPs Moms. For more information about Boise Rescue Mission and other ways to help click HERE. December 13th - Eagle MOPs Book Club Meeting 7-9 pm

Lisa Johnston, one of are very own mentor moms, will be speaking to our Eagle MOPS group about how to teach manners to our children. She will give guidelines when to start teaching manners, demonstrations on specific skills and fun activities to teach them to our children.

Lisa Johnston is a certified corporate etiquette & social/life skills coach. She trains business people all over the Northwest and teaches manners to over a 100 children each week. How blessed are we to have her!

We played games and enjoyed an amazing brunch!

Thank you PINK-LIFE Group! This meeting definitely made
an impact! The biggest question we left with was: How often do we really interact with our children? Studies have shown that it can be as little as 15 min a day. Most of us left the meeting a little more aware and in tune with the amount of true interaction we have with our little ones at home.

Volunteers/Donations Needed for MOPS Booth

We are sponsoring a booth at the FIRST ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL BAZAAR AT "JUST KID'N AROUND" SAT. AUGUST 20!!!! We would like to use this opportunity to meet new moms, introduce MOPS and take advantage of this time to do some fundraising. What we are looking for are donations that can be used to create theme baskets that we will auction off. The themes are:

Fall is here and before we know it we will be cleaning for the holidays! But before we do just that....let's fill our freezers and those around us with BUTTER BRAIDS!!
That's right, our fall fund raiser begins this week. Come to our meeting on Thursday, October 14 to find out more...

This week also starts our group's version of Freecycle. A way we can give back to each other and recycle gentled used or partially used items.

Items can include anything you think will be useful to someone else!
Including and not limited to;

Gently used children's clothing (no rips or stains)
For our fall meetings, please consider donating upcoming seasonal need items such as coats, winter boots, gloves, hats, snowsuits
Toys in good condition
Baby items (diaper cremes you never used, the left over diapers or pull ups that your baby outgrew, wipes, samples that are just laying around, diaper bags you are done with, bouncy seats, baby toys, blankets, bottles, nursing stuff, etc.)

So, be looking for anything you may want to part with...

It was wonderful to see so many new faces and also previous MOPS. We are looking forward to a great year.

5 Moms joined us at Michelle's house for ice cream and FARKLE, a fun dice game. We made yummy sundaes and enjoyed each other's company. We have Mom's Night Out every 3rd Thursday of the month.

Our next Mom's Night Out will be Oct. 15th. It will be a Spa Retreat evening! Don't miss it!

1st Meeting of the New Year

We had a wonderful time together for our 1st meeting of the new year. We had 25 ladies join us and 4 new moms! Yay! Thank you for choosing to hang out with all of us.

We are looking forward to some great changes this year:

1) Discussion Groups-having the same group every week to talk and share with each other

2) Discussion Groups will be responsible for planning and preparing the meal for a meeting, so everyone else can just come enjoy!

3) Bible Study will be split into 2 semesters this year- 1st and 3rd Thursdays starting in Oct.

4) Lower dues- $30 twice in the year

Even the rain couldn't keep us away! We had a fun day at Erica's together with a jump house, making S'mores on the BBQ, and great conversation. We missed many of you, but those who came had a great time together!

This week we talked about meal/budget planning for our family and Kristin gave us the basics on couponing. So much information to share.! I am attaching a link to the meal planner we handed out also. It's an excel spreadsheet you can use to plan your meals weekly.

I will be posting some links to Kristin's favorite couponing websites as well. Keep on the lookout! I hope you are all out saving LOTS of money and getting your FREE stuff.

We will be announcing our new Steering Team for the '09-'10 MOPS year at our last meeting on the 28th. If you would like to be a part of the Steering Team next year, please make sure you let Erica or Ralynn know. We have some new positions available this coming year! We are looking forward to a great year on PLANET MOM (see April 19 post).

We celebrated Mother's Day on April 23rd. Our Steering provided a themed tables, a terrific brunch, and a flower for each mom. Ralynn gave a devotional about gratitude and Erica talked to us about preserving memories in your family, whether in words or pictures, traditions, etc. Think about something you can do today to preserve special memories for your family!

We have 2 more meetings before summer starts. We will be still meeting during June, July and August on our regularly scheduled days for some fun activities-parks, swimming, etc. Check the blog soon for a schedule.

Here is our new theme for next year! I am so excited to be "Together on Planet Mom" with all of you! MOPS is giving us a break for membership next year if we register by May 29th. $21.95 gets you all of MOPS fabulous member benefits AND we will also be doing a drawing for 2 FREE memberships for all of those ladies that pre-register for next year. After May 29th, memberships is $23.95. We will be starting registration at our next meeting, Thurs April 23rd

Bowl-a-rama

We had fun at Westy's Bowling last Thursday for Moms Night Out. Only 4 ladies were able to join us, but it was fun just the same. Michelle broke her "speed bowling" record and the rest of us were just excited to break 100, although we all got at least one strike. Join us the 3rd Thursday of May for another fun Moms Night Out from 7-9pm.

Easter Eggstravaganza!

Our MOPS meeting on April 9th was so much fun! We had a fairly small group, but those of us who were able to come enjoyed a wonderful day together. We watched a DVD about perspective and then had some great discussion. Afterward, we headed over to Spring Creek Manor for an Easter Egg Hunt with the residents. Spring Creek houses about 28 residents (mostly ladies). They stuffed and hid over 500 eggs for us to find. Stephanie taught the kids the Peter Cottontail song, so they sang it before the hunt. Then the kids were off to get eggs! Afterwards, we had everybody find a new friend to open our eggs with and discover what treasures we found. The ladies had such a wonderful time watching the kids and the kids were all intrigued by these lovely women.

We are looking forward to making this an annual event! If you don't have much family in the area, these ladies love company and you can call ahead and reserve a seat at lunch with them any day of the week for $5 per person as well. They would love to have you and your little ones for a visit.

We had Moms Night Out this month at Groove Coffee House in Meridian. 9 ladies joined us and we had a great evening just relaxing and chatting together.

We had some new mom friends join us and hope that they come see us at MOPS soon too. It's always fun to just have some down time together.

March-ing onward together!

Today we watched a great DVD segment featuring Julie Barnhill. She asked us to all say "I am a mess of magnificent proportions!" Ah, what a relief to know that we all struggle sometimes. We were also challenged to ask for support from our other MOPS moms in times of need. After all, we are all moms and know the struggles we can all face. If you need help, just ask!!! If you need a friend to call, ask Erica or Ralynn to get you the names and numbers of some moms who are willing to help!

Speaking of moms who will need help, Erica and Audra formally announced that they are expecting! Congratulations ladies! We are so excited for you.

Michelle helped us make some cute button flowers for craft today using floral wire. They turned out so cute! Great idea.

We started to help one another with a "Moms Helping Moms" jar at our sign in table. Drop in a few coins, bills, gift cards, coupons, whatever you have to help other moms in our group.

We are still collecting baby food/formula for the Eagle Food Bank. Today we collected a full grocery bag and they were so grateful. So, clean out those cupboards for Spring and bring your baby food or formula you aren't using to the next meeting and help another struggling mom.

We will be having a wonderful meeting April 9th, so don't miss it! We are going to do our 2nd annual Easter Egg Hunt at Spring Creek Manor Senior Living Center in Eagle at the end of our meeting. It will be so much fun and the residents can't wait to see us.

Tunnel of Love-Couples Night

Our Couples Night was a hit! We enjoyed a great dinner from Carinos and some yummy desserts along with great company! Pastor Ed spoke to us about our own "Tunnels of Love" and what those tunnels mean- connection, a way to get from one place to another, etc.

We enjoyed a great game of Spouseology also. Everyone had a wonderful evening spending a little time with their spouses while the kids enjoyed a fun program of their own.

We had a nice meeting in February. We watched a DVD from our Adventures in Mothering cirriculum and made some really cute photo frames for a craft. It was so nice to see everyone!

Apron Strings and Actvities

We had the pleasure of having Michelle Whittaker from Apron Strings Ministries come speak to us about growth. She shared a great message with us and reminded us that it's better to be "green and growing" than "ripe and rotten". We want to model for our children how to be followers of Christ and show them how to be kind and compassionate.

Kristin helped us do some fun activities from our Rain Day Activities bucket. We made Flubber, silly putty, box cities, musical instruments, and puzzles. These are all great fun for your kids!

Our 50 cent Sale was a hit! We made $42.75 for our group. Jenny's little girl even modeled her new coat and book for the camera!

Here's a recipe for play dough that you can use also:
Kool-Aid Play Dough
1 c flour
1/2 c salt
3 Tbsp oil
1 pkg Kool-Aid (unsweetened)
1 c boiling water

Mix together and knead until ready to play. Store in an airtight container.

REMINDERS:
Couples Night is coming Thursday, Feb. 26th. We will be meeting in the evening instead of our regular morning meeting. Please come even if your spouse is not available.
Cost: $5 for spouse. Dinner and childcare will be provided.

Moms Night Out

We met at the Paramount clubhouse for Chinese Tacos and the movie Mamma Mia! The ladies had a lot of fun just chatting and hanging out together.

It's a New Year!

We had a wonderful start to our New Year learning about growth. We watched a video from our MOPS series and discussed how we as moms can learn to stretch and grow and trust God more in our daily hectic lives.

Kristin helped us make some cute containers to hold Rainy Day activities and next time we will get to fill it with some different things we can do with our kids on those dreary days.

Celebrating the Season

We had a very special meeting today at MOPS. The Steering Team decorated theme tables. They all looked fabulous. Pastor Joy came to speak to us about slowing down this holiday season and remembering that Jesus Is the Reason for the Season. We learned how to tie those big beautiful bows you see all over the place this time of year. Tami helped us play a fun game for our White Elephant gift exchange. I cant' wait to see who gets Cara's Line Dancing videos next year :)

A few of us made it to Moms Night Out this month. Justine, one of our newest MOPS moms, is headed off for a new adventure in CA. Heading into the Holidays!

Our November meeting featured a past MOPS mommy, Lisa, giving us tips on traveling with little ones. Everybody LOVED all of the ideas that she had for us. Lisa is also a travel agent, so she can make all those fantasy trips a reality for us! We had a great time together and made travel tote bags that we can all stuff with goodies for those holiday car and plane trips.

We kicked off the Harvest/Halloween season during our meeting today. We had a guest speaker come and teach us about self defense and some different things that we could do to keep us and our family safe. Kristin helped us make yummy homemade caramel apples. Our Butter Braid fundraiser was a big success and we made enough to cover child care costs for the rest of the year! Thank you to all of you for your participation.

Bowled Over

We had a great evening at Westy's Bowling on Thursday for Mom's Night Out. We had 10 MOPS moms and a guest and had so much fun! We tried to see who could throw it the fastest down the lane. Then Daisey tried to do it the slowest! Michelle T. won for the best score of the night with a 132 (and threw it fast!) What a superstar ! The Relationship Adventure

We had a very fun meeting today! We watched a DVD about relationships and had a thoughtful discussion about friendships and creating and keeping them. Kristin helped us make some really cute blocks that say FALL (although it feels like winter already). It was our first meeting with Mystery Mom goodies. Please remember your Mystery Mom with a little something at least once a month. We decided to cultivate some relationships within the group by writing our address on an envelope with a notecard inside and then exchanging them. The idea is to encourage another mom with a note in the next week or so. Even if you couldn't participate today, you can send your own note to another mom or friend and let them know how much you appreciate them!

Our big excitement came from our Butter Braids Fundraiser. We will be selling these yummy pastries for the next 2 weeks. Orders need to be turned in by Oct. 23rd and we will get delivery on Nov. 13th. If you've never had these before, you are missing out. They are so yummy and because they come frozen, they are easy to keep on hand. You can call and have them bring a sample to your office, club, etc. on Tuesday Oct. 14th. Make sure you contact them to arrange a sample by Oct. 13th. You can copy and paste info from the website into a quick email to send family and friends. See site link at the right.

We're Jammin'!

We had a great meeting today. Daisey talked to us about the 3 R's- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We learned about easy ways to cut down on waste and work on "being Green". Kristin helped us all make our own blackberry jam. It was so yummy and easy to do! We drew for Mystery Moms too. Mystery Mom is our version of "Secret Sister". Bible Study is meeting on the 16th and 30th this month due to Sharon being on vacation. We are continuing to have more great moms join our group. We will be starting our Butter Braids fundraiser on the 9th for 2 weeks. It was very successful last year. You can use the funds from the fundraiser to help pay your own meeting fees for the year also. It's never to late to come be a part of our fun group. Our First Meeting of the Year!

We had such a great time for the first of our "Adventures in Mothering" together! We had 31 ladies join us Thursday AM for fun, food, and friendship. We enjoyed a "carnival" to celebrate this year's theme with different booths-Registration, Devotion and Bible Study, Moms Night Out, Community Outreach, Mystery Mom, Photo booth, and Nametags. Each table had great information for the year along with goodies for our moms and tickets to win prizes. Our Photo Booth was a hit- our moms dressed up in some "adventure" gear for their photos. Erica looked lovely as a princess and Ralynn wanted to go to Disneyland! We will use the photos on our MOPS MOMS board throughout the year to get to know one another better.

We had 7 new ladies join us! WOW! What a way to start off the year together. We look forward to you joining us if you can the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 9:15 am.

Playgroup Summer FUN!

We met at Ivywild Pool for Preschool swim time Thursday. It was a blast and all the kids had so much fun on the water slide. We meet during the summer for play time at local parks or attractions.

We can't wait to see all of our MOPS friends Sept. 11th when we have our first meeting.

Mom's Night Out

6 of us were able to get together at Beth's house Thursday evening for summer refreshments, appetizers, and Bocce Ball. Although none of us could figure out the rules, we had a ball (literally)! :-)

We enjoyed seeing Beth's beautiful new home and the view from her porch at sunset is beautiful!
